AVON — One year has passed since Najah Ferrell disappeared, and the search for her killer continues.

Ferrell, 30, of Avon, was last seen when she left for work March 15, 2019, but she never made it there. On March 26, her car was found abandoned on Interstate 465 near Lafayette Road in Indianapolis with some of her belongings strewn beside the roadway. Her foot was later found April 7 in a pond in Crown Point.

Ferrell's death and disappearance remain an active investigation, and the Avon Police Police Department continues to work with Indiana State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the search for leads in the case.

"The case remains active and we are in need of the public's assistance," Avon Police Department assistant chief Brian Nugent said.

Avon police also asked for help Saturday night in a pair of tweets.

"We believe that somebody knows something about this case. We are pleading with the public to step forward with information that can help bring closure for Najah's family and her children," a tweet read.

In November, Ferrell's mother, Paula Gholson, asked for help finding the people responsible for her daughter's death.

"We are not going to quit. And it is not OK to take somebody's life. It's not OK," Gholson said. "That's not normal. That's not normal to take somebody's life that was not involved in anything illegal, living a life of chance and haphazardly, no, this was a mother. We’re going to keep this alive as much as possible and as long as we have to get where we need to get to get to some finality.”

Anyone with information on Ferrell's disappearance should call the Hendricks County Communications Center at 317-839-8700 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
