INDIANAPOLIS — A man is dead after a shooting Thursday evening inside the Castleton Square Mall, police say.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were patrolling in the area and heard shots fired inside the mall, IMPD Officer Genae Cook said in an email.
Officers later located a man who appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound, Cook said. He later died.
The Marion County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as Trai Terrell, 23.
Detectives believe it happened inside the mall, but not inside a store, Cook said. The incident then continued into the parking lot.
Those involved in the incident are believed to have known each other, Cook said. Detectives are interviewing people in connection with the incident.
Multiple weapons have been recovered, Cook said, but detectives aren't sure how or if they are involved yet.
IMPD is partnered with the mall to make sure it is safe, Cook said. Detectives believe there is no threat to the public and are encouraging people to continue patronizing the mall.
Police are encouraging anyone with information to call police or report tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
