KOKOMO — An 11-month-long drug investigation in Kokomo has led to 47 people being charged with various drug-related crimes, police said Monday.
According to a report from the Kokomo Police Department, the investigation, codenamed Operation Almost Real, began in January and involved the Kokomo Police Department Drug Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration, Internal Revenue Service and the Kokomo Police Department K-9 Unit.
Police said during the investigation detectives conducted approximately 117 controlled buy cases. As a result of the buys and search warrants, 47 people were charged with crimes. Of those, 41 people were charged in Howard County with various drug dealing, drug-related charges, and gun charges. Six people are facing federal charges in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.
During Operation Almost Real officers seized the following:
- Approximately 8.2 pounds of methamphetamine
- Approximately 118.57 grams of heroin
- Approximately 1,143 grams of marijuana
- One bulletproof vest
- 17 guns — 7 which were stolen guns
- Two 100 round drum magazines
- $98,451 in cash
- Three money counting machines
- Four vehicles
No injuries were reported when the search warrants were executed or when suspects were arrested.
