JOHNSON COUNTY — A deadly shooting is under investigation Friday evening just outside of Greenwood in Johnson County.
Johnson County Sheriff's Office deputies and emergency personnel were responded to multiple calls reporting shots fired around 4:45 p.m. to the area near 3800 block of Chelsea Terrace, near Smith Valley Road and Berry Road.
A person at the scene was shooting into a vehicle with three people inside, Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess said. One person died at the scene and one person was taken to Eskenazi Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Burgess said.
Late Friday, Burgess identified the victim as Kashius Davis, 15, of Bargersville. Burgess said Davis was the front seat passenger in a vehicle with two other teens. The 19-year-old man taken to Eskenazi was a rear seat passenger in the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, also a teen, was not injured, Burgess said.
According to Burgess, both the driver and rear seat passenger were able to tell deputies who had shot them and provided a description of where he lived. The suspect, a 16-year-old Greenwood boy, was later taken into custody at his home in the neighborhood, the sheriff said.
The sheriff said the 16-year-old boy is being held on suspicion of murder and suspicion of aggravated battery.
Neighbors told WRTV they heard about five or six shots in the area.
