CARMEL — It's been 13 years since an off-duty police officer was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Carmel and police are still looking for the driver who struck him.

Off-duty Carmel High School Police Officer Ronald Obsitnick, was struck and killed while riding his motorcycle near 96th and Meridian streets on July 20, 2006, according to a release from Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana. The driver left the scene in a black, two-door, small sports car with a rear spoiler.

Witnesses told police the driver pulled over to the side of the road before taking off, according to the release.

Police set up an "information checkpoint" after the crash and handed out fliers hoping to get information on the driver.

Obsitnick's sister, Dawn Bodle, spoke with RTV6 in 2006 and described her brother as a fun loving, light hearted guy who always wanted to be a police officer.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477(TIPS).
