INDIANAPOLIS -- Police believe one man was the target, but a drive-by shooting on Indianapolis' northeast side damaged several houses and a vehicle Tuesday night.

The shooting happened in the 11000 block of Cuyahoga Drive just before midnight.

A man, whose name is being protected, told officers he believes he was the intended target, saying as he got out of his car he noticed a car slowly moving with its headlights off before the shots were fired.

A couple who lives in the neighborhood, Alyssa and Kieran, said they were out for a late-night walk with their dogs when they heard 5-10 shots. Adrenaline took over.

"I grabbed Alyssa and we jumped to the floor," Kieran Hyde said. "They were turning the corner still shooting at the same time."

Police say at least four houses and a car were hit by the gunfire. Nobody was hit, but police believe the shooter and the man who said he was targeted know each other. The incident may be over a woman both dated.

Hyde said this is the fourth time his house has been shot up.

As police track the shooter, neighbors say the house has been the subject of police calls in the past, and they want more patrols on the block.

"It's just ridiculous and it's not fair that we just want to live in a nice neighborhood and there are just a few bad apples that have to ruin it for us," Hyde said.

Police believe a white Chevy Impala with a burgundy front passenger door was involved in the shooting. They found 12 shell casings in the street and four on the porch of the targeted house.

The same house was the target of another drive-by shooting the night before this incident.
