INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana's overdose deaths increased by 28 percent year over year, according to data released by the Centers for Disease Control on Friday.
Between July 2015-July 2016, 1,383 people in Indiana died from an overdose. During the next 12-month period (July 2016-July 2017), 1,767 people died of an overdose.
Only six states (and D.C.) had larger percentage increases than Indiana: Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania.
The complete data set for all 50 states is available here. The report notes that these numbers are provisional, meaning they're often incomplete and causes of death may be pending investigation.
