INDIANAPOLIS — Two men were injured after a shooting Tuesday evening in downtown Indianapolis.

Police were called around 5 p.m. to the 500 block of East Ohio Street. Police appeared to be concentrating their efforts around an entrance to the Maxwell Apartments, one of the many new large downtown Indianapolis apartment buildings. Officers found a man who was shot.

The man was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer Michael Hewitt said in a press release.

While detectives were investigating, they learned another man had shown up to Eskenazi Hospital suffering from gunshot wounds, Hewitt said. The man is listed in serious condition.

Detectives say they believe the men were in some sort of dispute and witnesses are cooperating with the investigation, Hewitt said.

"We do believe this to be an isolated incident that does not pose any threat to public safety in or around the downtown area of Indianapolis," Hewitt said.

Early on in the investigation, it did not appear there had been an arrest in the shooting.
