Fatal shooting on northeast side is Indianapolis's 100th homicide of the year

INDIANAPOLIS — Another deadly night in Indianapolis has brought the city to its 100th homicide this year.

The fatal shooting of a man happened around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday at 35th Street and Keystone Avenue, on the northeast side, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

When police arrived, they found a man suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was later identified as 37-year-old Richard Jones.

The 100th homicide count in Indianapolis, as of June 18, is a number we didn't see in 2019 until September.

The tragic milestone comes after four other homicide investigations on Wednesday.

On Wednesday night, a man was killed after a shooting on the west side, a woman was found shot to death near a CVS on the east side, and on Wednesday morning two men were also found shot to death in a crashed vehicle.
