INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating after four people were shot in two separate incidents Sunday morning in downtown Indianapolis.

Just after midnight, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to investigate the report of a person shot in the area near East Market and North Pennsylvania streets.

Officers arrived and found a man with at least one apparent gunshot wound, IMPD Major Kerry Buckner said. The man was taken to a local hospital and is in critical condition.

A short time later, two people with apparent gunshot wounds arrived at a local hospital, Buckner said. One person is stable and one person is in critical condition. Detectives believe they were shot during the incident on East Market Street.

Detectives believe there was some sort of a gathering in a nearby parking lot when several people approached a car and started shooting, Buckner said. The man, detectives believe, tried to drive away from the scene and crashed into a brick wall and a parked car.

Around 2:45 a.m., officers found a person with at least one apparent gunshot wound near South Meridian and West South streets, IMPD Lt. Shane Foley said. They were taken to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.

Additional details, including the identities of those injured, haven't been released.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or report tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477) or online.
