IMPD: Indianapolis man arrested in infant son's death

The 28-day-old died as a a result of trauma

INDIANAPOLIS — The father of a 28-day-old baby was arrested by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers in connection to the homicide of his infant son, according to IMPD Public Information Officer Michael Hewitt.

On Friday, Dec. 20, IMPD officers were dispatched to 4932 Rockville Road in response to a child was not breathing. When officers arrived they found 28-day-old Leo Grant unresponsive.

The infant was taken to an area hospital where he later died on Monday, Dec. 23.

On the same day as the infant's death, the Marion County Coroner found that the baby boy had died as a result of multiple blunt force trauma and ruled the case a homicide.

IMPD detectives arrested the infant's father, 24-year-old Michael Gaunt, in connection to the alleged homicide.

Gaunt was initially arrested for battery resulting in serious injury to a person under the age of 14.

The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will review the case.
