IMPD: Woman found dead in vehicle near City-County Building, believe incident happened elsewhere

INDIANAPOLIS — A homicide investigation is underway after a woman was found dead inside a vehicle Saturday morning near the City-County Building.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the 200 block of East Market Street, near the City-County Building, on the report of an unresponsive person inside a vehicle, IMPD Officer Michael Hewitt said in a press release.

When they arrived, they found a woman suffering from trauma who was dead inside, Hewitt said. Detectives later learned the incident happened near West 21st Street and Interstate 65.

IMPD homicide detectives detained and questioned a person in connection with the incident, Hewitt said. It is not clear if they have been charged at this time.

The identities of the person detained or the woman found dead have not been released.
