INDIANAPOLIS — A 37-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly striking and killing a 51-year-old Plainfield man on I-465 in June.

Indiana State Police believe that the 37-year-old suspect, of Indianapolis, was allegedly driving under the influence of drugs when he struck 51-year-old Shawn Patterson on I-465 on Indianapolis' east side around noon on June 30.

Patterson was found lying in the roadway, unconscious when he was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to ISP, Patterson pulled to the highway's right shoulder to make adjustments to the load in the back of his pick-up truck. The suspect, driving a Chevy Trailblazer, then, according to investigators, drove onto the shoulder and struck Patterson.

A semi following the Trailblazer was also involved in the wreckage, but the driver was not injured.

Three lanes of I-465 were closed for several hours while the crash was investigated. ISP Troopers were assisted by the Indianapolis Fire Department, Indianapolis EMS, the Marion County Coroner's Office, and INDOT.

The suspect in the case was transported to the hospital with minor injuries directly after the crash. He now faces a level four felony for Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence Causing Death.
