LAFAYETTE — On Friday, the Lafayette Police Department announced that the person of interest they were seeking in connection to a fatal shooting at a Lafayette Walmart on September 4 was apprehended in Little Rock, Arkansas.
According to the department, Anthony J. Perez, 28, was a person of interest in the case. He was apprehended without incident in downtown Little Rock.
Perez was arrested for an active warrant for escape in Tippecanoe County after cutting off his home detention bracelet. Perez was serving time within the Tippecanoe County Community Corrections work release center for possession of methamphetamine at the time of his escape.
According to police, Perez is sought for questioning in connection to the fatal shooting that claimed the life of 33-year-old Casey Lewis.
On September 4, Lewis was found wounded when officers responded about 8:40 p.m. to the store at 4205 Commerce Drive.
Perez remains in Little Rock and awaiting an extradition hearing.
In their release, the Lafayette Police Department sent a thank you to the Little Rock Police Department and the community for their help in searching for Perez.
