Lafayette woman killed in early morning shooting

LAFAYETTE — A woman was shot and killed early Friday in a neighborhood in Lafayette, police said.

Lafayette Police Department officers received a report around 1:20 a.m. about a woman suffering from a medical problem in the 2400 block of Union Street. When they arrived, police found the woman dead with an apparent gunshot wound, according to a news release.

Police arrested a person-of-interest on an unrelated warrant at about 8 a.m. in the 200 block of Perrin Avenue. The person is being held at the Tippecanoe County Jail.

Neither the woman nor the suspect have been named, and the shooting remains under investigation.
