INDIANAPOLIS — A man was arrested in connection with the shooting death of another man early Sunday morning in downtown Indianapolis.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested Eric Middlebrook, 30, in connection with the early morning homicide, according to a press release from IMPD. Middlebrook was charged on the suspicion of murder. Formal charges have not been filed by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office.
An officer was on patrol in downtown Indianapolis when he heard a gunshot coming from a parking lot and saw Middlebrook chasing another man before shooting and killing him, according to the release. Middlebrook was taken into custody without incident at the scene.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

IMPD is crediting the quick arrest to beat policing and the officer being in the right place at the right time. This year, IMPD is working to increase the number of beats to reduce the geographic areas of the 78 existing beats.
