INDIANAPOLIS — A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman earlier this month on the west side of Indianapolis.

John Moreno, 27, was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder in connection to the death of Donna Hawes, 54, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Officer William Young said in a press release. Formal charges have been filed, according to online court records.

Around 1 p.m. on Feb. 7, IMPD officers found Hawes dead in the 1000 block of Hardin Boulevard, near West Washington Street and Interstate 465, Young said. The Marion County Coroner's Office later determined she had been shot.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Hawes possibly owed Moreno $25, but didn't have the money to give to him.

Anyone with information is asked to call homicide detectives at 317-327-3475 or report tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477) or online.
