INDIANAPOLIS — A man has been charged with shooting and killing Chris Beaty during the protests in downtown Indianapolis in late May.
Marcus Anderson has been charged with murder, felony murder, robbery and pointing a firearm.
Beaty, 38, was shot and killed on May 30 as he walked through the alley near his apartment building after a robbery had occurred. He was a former Indiana University football player and played for three state championship-winning teams at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis.
“The tragic loss of Chris Beaty has had a tremendous impact on the Indianapolis community, and we want to thank his family for their patience and support during the investigative process.” said Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears.
Mears' office said the investigation included security footage, cell phone data and forensic evidence that placed Anderson at the scene of the crimes. Detectives believe Anderson and four other suspects were involved in five robberies or attempted robberies, in addition to the murder, within about 20 minutes. Anderson was charged in August for his alleged role in one of those robberies.
