Man dies at hospital after weekend shooting on Indy's north side

INDIANAPOLIS — A man who wasshot on the north side of Indianapolis on Saturday morning has died in the hospital, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

IMPD officers were in the area of W. 34th St. and N. Meridian St. on Saturday at 8:54 a.m. when they heard shots being fired. The officers then located a man who was "suffering from injuries consistent with gunshot wound(s)" in the 100 Block of W. 34th St., according to IMPD public information officer Samone Burris.

The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where medical staff worked to save his life. Despite this, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on Tuesday.

The identities of those involved in the incident haven't been released.

Homicide detectives did respond to the scene of the crime, where they began their investigation. The Marion County Coroner's Office will determine the exact manner and cause of death.

Over the weekend, from Friday evening through Sunday night, at least 12 people were shot, four fatally, in Indianapolis.
