CRAWFORDSVILLE — A Montgomery County man is hospitalized after he was shot by police following a standoff that lasted more than six hours Monday at a house in Crawfordsville.

According to information from Indiana State Police, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic battery call around 2:15 p.m. at a house on State Road 47, south of County Road 275 East.

A deputy was able to get a woman out of the house, and they learned a man had barricaded himself inside the house with a firearm. Police set up a perimeter around the house and the Montgomery County Multi Jurisdiction SWAT Team was called to the scene, ISP said in a news release.

Shortly after the SWAT team arrived, the man allegedly fired multiple shots at officers. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office then asked the Indiana State Police SWAT Team and Hostage Negotiation Team to respond.

Around 8:30 p.m., the man allegedly went to a window with a firearm and pointed it at officers, according to ISP. An officer with the Montgomery County Multi Jurisdiction SWAT Team then fired his weapon and shot the man. The officer has not been identified.

Medics transported the man to IU Hospital in Crawfordsville, and a lifeline helicopter took him to a hospital in Indianapolis. His condition and identity have not been released.

Detectives from the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post are leading an investigation into the shooting, while the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department is investigating the domestic battery case, ISP said.
