Man who admitted to killing Denise Pflum dies at Indianapolis hospital, Fayette County sheriff says

FAYETTE COUNTY — The man who admitted to killing 18-year-old Denise Pflum in 1986 died Saturday morning at an Indianapolis hospital, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Department.

Shawn McClung, who was charged with voluntary manslaughter in July in connection with her death, died at IU Health Methodist Hospital, according to a Facebook post from the sheriff's department. Additional information was not released.

A hearing on a motion to dismiss was scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, according to online court records.

Pflum went missing in March 1986.

Possible remains were found two years ago at Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary while detectives were investigating the case, according to the sheriff's department. Her body has not been found.
