Mental evaluation ordered for step-mother accused of killing step-daughter

GAS CITY — A Grant County judge has ordered a mental evaluation for a woman accused of killing her step-daughter.

During a hearing Tuesday morning, a judge appointed a doctor to evaluate Amanda Carmack, 34, according to online court records.

Carmack is accused of killing Skylea Carmack, 10, after her body was found in a plastic bag in her backyard.

She is facing charges for murder, neglect of a dependent resulting in death, domestic battery resulting in death and strangulation.

A pre-trial conference is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2020 and a jury trial is scheduled for Feb. 3, 2020, according to online court records.
