CUMBERLAND -- The mother of an eight-year-old Cumberland girl and the woman's boyfriend are under arrest and facing charges in the child's death.

According to Cumberland Police Chief Suzanne Woodland, officers were called to 11519 Kirkwood Drive in Cumberland late Tuesday afternoon. The apartment complex is in the Marion County portion of Cumberland.

The little girl was rushed to Community East Hospital but died a short time later.

An autopsy Wednesday by the Marion County coroner determined the child's death was not an accident and was caused by suffocation and asphyxiation. Chief Woodland said there was evidence of sexual and physical abuse at the scene.

The mother, 32-year-old Kimberly Grosklos, and boyfriend Derrick Dale, 30, face preliminary charges of neglect of a dependent causing death.

Three other children at the home are now in the hands of the Department of Child Services.
