Newton County deputy critically injured in Illinois shooting

NEWTON COUNTY — An Indiana sheriff's deputy was critically injured Sunday night after being shot in the line of duty.

The deputy from Newton County, located northwest Indiana, was shot during an incident in Sheldon, Illinois. This is about 10 miles west of Kentland, Indiana.

Details are still limited, including the name of the deputy involved.

The Illinois State Police are handling the investigation.
