INDIANAPOLIS — One person is dead and another was injured after a shooting early Sunday morning in Indianapolis, according to police.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to investigate the report of shots fired around 3 a.m. in the 3500 block of North Arlington Avenue, just north of Massachusetts Avenue and East 34th Street.
Around the same time, officers were notified of a person with an apparent gunshot wound at a nearby fire station and another at Community East Hospital.
The person at the hospital with a gunshot wound later died, IMPD Officer William Young said in a press release. The person who went to the fire station was taken to a local hospital and is stable.
The man who died has been identified as Michael Stampford, 26, by the Marion County Coroner's Office.
IMPD homicide detectives are trying to determine if they were shot on North Arlington Avenue, Young said.
The incident remains under investigation and additional details have not been released.
