LAWRENCE — One person has died after a shooting in Lawrence on Friday afternoon.
According to Lawrence police Deputy Chief Gary Woodruff, police were called to a home in the 11600 block of High Grass Drive at 4 p.m. Friday on report of a person shot.
When officers arrived, they found an adult male victim who was suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was taken to an area hospital in "very critical condition," Woodruff said.
George Oakley, 70, later died, Woodruff said.

"There was a suspect who was taken into custody very nearby the scene here," Woodruff said. "We're certain this is very much a contained and isolated situation. There's no ongoing threat to public safety."
The suspect, also an adult male, and the victim are known to each other, Woodruff said.
The suspect, a 31-year-old, is facing a preliminary charge of murder.
Formal charges haven't been filed, according to online court records.
Police said the incident started as a disturbance between individuals who are known to each other and were staying at the residence where the shooting happened.
The incident remains under investigation.
