INDIANAPOLIS — A man has died in a shooting on the near north side of Indianapolis, near a KFC, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Officers found 25-year-old James Jones II at the restaurant in the 2400 block of North Meridian Street around noon. Jones II was taken to the hospital, where after a short time he was pronounced dead.
IMPD Officer William Young says based on preliminary information, they believe there was a disturbance inside the KFC and it is unknown for sure if the shots were fired inside or outside.
Authorities are trying to piece together exactly what occurred and officers were canvassing the neighborhood.
Young says police were talking to a person of interest, but that person is not being called a suspect at this time.
Anyone with information about this incident should contact Detective Daniel Smith at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317.327.3475 or e-mail him at Daniel.Smith@indy.gov
This is the second shooting at a fast food restaurant in the past week. On Wednesday, a McDonald's employee shot and critically wounded a co-worker on 38th Street.
"Folks have got to learn how to deal with conflict resolution without picking up a firearm," Young said.
