SPEEDWAY — Central Indiana police departments are stepping up the use of body cameras by their officers.

Indianapolis is already rolling out the cameras, and last week, the Franklin Police Department in Johnson County approved the devices for its officers.

Monday night, the Speedway Town Council, on a 5-0 vote, decided on a five-year $326,000 contract for body cameras.

38 officers will wear the cameras which will be provided by the same company IMPD has a contract with.

There will be no cost for cloud storage, which is usually a major expense.
