Police: Civilians block hit-and-run driver from leaving scene after crash

INDIANAPOLIS -- Civilians helped police stop a driver from leaving the scene of a hit-and-run on Indianapolis' northeast side Monday morning, police say.

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle near 38th Street and Mitthoeffer Road at about 8 a.m.

The driver tried to leave the scene, but was stopped by civilian motorists. The driver was then apprehended by police. 

The pedestrian was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. 

The intersection will be closed until about 10 a.m. while police investigate the incident.
