Police investigating fatal shooting on west side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department pronounced one person dead at the scene of a shooting on the city's west side Tuesday night.

After being dispatched around 9:20 p.m. to a person shot at 1820 Winfield Avenue, a few paces from Lafayette Road, police located the shooting victim dead in their vehicle.

IMPD public information officer Genae Cook said a fight ensued between the victim and the suspect shortly before the fatal shooting. The suspect drove away from the scene, but crashed their vehicle about two blocks south of the shooting's location.

The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Tony McClain.

Police have caught the suspect.
