MICHIGAN CITY — A correctional officer at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City was fatally stabbed and another is in serious condition after an inmate attacked them on Sunday, according to Indiana State Police.
A 38-year-old inmate attacked the officers around 2:40 p.m. CST in a common area, ISP Sgt. Ted Bohner said in a press release.
The inmate was preliminarily charged with murder and other charges, Bohner said. Formal charges stemming from this incident haven't been filed, according to online court records.
Indiana State Police detectives are investigating the incident, according to IDOC.
The identities of the staff members and additional details about the incident haven't been released.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with our staff and their families," a statement from IDOC read.
