MARION — A 25-year-old man was shot and killed after attempting to run over an officer, according to Indiana State Police.

The Grant County Sheriff's Department was dispatched to a domestic situation involving a possible stabbing at a home in the 3200 block of South Central Avenue around 6:10 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators say Lieutenant Matthew Sneed, who was the first on the scene, exited his vehicle and started to walk up the driveway when a vehicle came barreling towards him. Lt. Sneed jumped onto the hood of the Honda Civic to avoid being hit and the driver, later identified as Daniel Young, kept going.

During the course of the incident, investigators say Sneed allegedly fired multiple rounds from his Sig Sauer 9mm handgun through the Honda's windshield. Young was struck multiple times before the vehicle came to a stop.

Young was rushed to Marion General Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Lt. Sneed was not injured.

Responding officers located a 53-year-old man at the home who had been stabbed multiple times. That man was rushed to the hospital and later transferred to Ft. Wayne to be treated. His condition is not known at this time.

The incident remains under investigation by Indiana State Police and no other details have been released at this time.
