INDIANAPOLIS — A suspected drunk driver has been arrested after police say they ran a red light and slammed into a cruiser that was trying to pull over another vehicle.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department PIO Aaron Hamer said an off-duty officer was trying to catch up to an SUV that was running red lights on 10th Street around 4 a.m. when the crash occurred.

Hamer said the officer had his emergency lights activated when the other vehicle drove into his path at the intersection 10th and Tuxedo streets.

The officer and the other driver both complained of pain and minor injuries and were taken to the hospital to be checked out. All injuries are considered non-life threatening at this time. Hamer says they later determined that the driver had been drinking and they were arrested for driving under the influence.

The crash remains under investigation by IMPD.
