COLUMBUS — Three juveniles were taken into custody after two windows were damaged at a Columbus high school, the Columbus Police Department said Thursday.
Police say security camera footage caught video of several juveniles around Columbus East High School on at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday. One of the juveniles was seen damaging a glass door at the school before running away. Another window was also damaged at the school.
The juveniles were also linked to the theft of a firearm from a vehicle that occurred early Sunday morning on a street near the school. Police determined the gun was fired while the juveniles were inside Garland Brook Cemetery. Nobody was hurt. The gun was later found under a dumpster near the school.
The three juveniles were transported to the Bartholomew County Youth Services Center where they were remanded for the following offenses:
Juvenile #1 (14 years of age): Theft of a Firearm (Level 6 Felony), Possession of a Handgun on School Property (Level 6 Felony), Criminal Recklessness with a Firearm (Level 6 Felony), Unlawful Entry of a Vehicle (Class B Misdemeanor), Criminal Mischief (Class A Misdemeanor)
Juvenile #2 (16 years of age): Theft of a Firearm (Level 6 Felony), Possession of a Handgun on School Property (Level 6 Felony), Criminal Recklessness with a Firearm (Level 6 Felony), Unlawful Entry of a Vehicle (Class B Misdemeanor), Criminal Mischief (Class A Misdemeanor)
Juvenile #3 (16 years of age) Possession of a Handgun without a License (Class A Misdemeanor), Theft of a Handgun (Level 6 Felony)
