INDIANAPOLIS — Three people were shot and one person is dead after a triple shooting on the east side of Indianapolis.

According to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to Hawthorne Apartments at 5223 E. 32nd Street on report of a person shot just before 4 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found three adult victims with gunshot injuries, including two females and one male.

All three victims were transported to area hospitals. Police said shortly after their arrival, one of the female victims died.

On Wednesday, the deceased female was identified by the coroner's office as 18-year-old Lashelle Hewlett.

The second female victim was in critical condition, and the male victim was listed in stable condition.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene and are canvassing the area.

At this time, police do not have a suspect in custody but individuals were detained on scene.

"To my understanding there was some type of disturbance that occurred prior to officers arriving. As you can imagine, the type of scene whenever you have three people shot there's lots of moving parts, so not necessarily they are in custody but they are detained so officers can figure out who's who and what's what," IMPD Public Information Officer William Young said.

Police are asking for anyone with information to come forward by calling 317-327-2475 or 317-262-(TIPS) to remain anonymous.
