INDIANAPOLIS — Two people were shot and one person killed in weekend shootings on interstates around Indianapolis, state troopers said Monday.

According to a report from the Indiana State Police, the first shooting took place between 11:30 p.m. Dec. 11 and 1:30 a.m. Dec. 12, state police said.

Troopers were called to the ramp from Washington Street to Interstate 65 at 1:30 a.m. Dec. 12 by officers of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department after a man reported being shot and officers determined the shooting happened on the interstate.

State police said a man driving a white Dodge Charger was entering Interstate 65 from Washington Street when he and his passenger were both shot. Troopers said they don't know where or who the shots came from. The passenger, Kevin Gordon Jr., 22, died as a result of his injuries. The driver suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

A second shooting occurred later on Dec. 12 around 6:45 p.m. on Interstate 465 near Michigan Road. State police said the second incident is believed to be the result of road rage.

Troopers said the driver of a white Dodge Charger pulled alongside a pickup truck and fired at least one shot. The bullet struck the passenger side of the truck, however, the driver of the truck was not injured.

Detectives said the two incidents do not appear to be related. The investigations remain ongoing.
