INDIANAPOLIS — One woman is dead after an officer-involved shooting on the city's northwest side Friday afternoon.
The shooting happened in the 500 block of Eugene Street around 2:30 p.m. and no officers were injured.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Office Genae Cook said around 1:30, officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle but the vehicle fled and the officer did not follow it or start a pursuit.
Around 2:30, officers found that vehicle on Eugene Street. As officers were investigating and towing the vehicle, a woman was on a porch.
Cook says officers walked up to the porch to speak with her and as they approached, the woman showed that she had a gun.
"Officers immediately gave her commands not to touch the weapon, not to make any motion for the weapon. She then reached for the weapon despite the commands the officer gave. Four officers then fired their weapons, striking the female," Cook said.
Cook says officers immediately gave first aid to the woman, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say all officers who fired their weapons were wearing body cameras.
