Motorist arrested after Indianapolis man struck and killed in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE — A Crawfordsville woman was arrested and faces drunk driving charges after she allegedly struck and killed an Indianapolis man while driving intoxicated early Sunday.

According to information from the Lafayette Police Department, dispatchers received a report of a man lying unresponsive in the roadway near the intersection of U.S. 231 and State Road 25 just after midnight.

Jeffrey Lynn Wade, 59, was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries, according to Lafayette police.

After 1 a.m., Lafayette police received a call from a 21-year-old woman who said she believed she hit a deer at the intersection. She was transported to Lafayette by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department.

Lafayette police took her into custody and she was transported to a hospital for further investigation.

The woman was arrested for operating while intoxicated resulting in death and leaving the scene of a crash and booked into the Lafayette County Jail, police said.
