INDIANAPOLIS — A woman died after she was shot early Friday outside a shopping center on the northwest side of Indianapolis, police said.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a person shot after 1:30 a.m. in the 4700 block of Century Plaza Road near Interstate 65 and Georgetown Road, according to IMPD Officer William Young.
Police found Secoyia Williams, 25, suffering from a gunshot wound when they arrived. Police believe there was a disturbance at Club Kalakutah before the shooting.
Medics transported Williams in critical condition to Eskenazi Hospital where she later died.
IMPD announced on Tuesday that a pair of sisters — Arieal Smith, 23, and Ebonie Parks, 27 — were arrested in the case.
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office announced on Thursday that Smith was charged with murder, pointing a firearm and carrying a handgun without a license. Parks faces a charge of assisting a criminal.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Williams and Smith fought inside Club Kalakutah. Their argument continued outside.
Williams walked up to a car Smith was sitting in and began banging on the windows, court documents say. Smith allegedly opened a car door and shot Williams in the stomach before firing approximately four more shots that did not strike anyone.
Police on Monday arrested Smith at a home in the 3200 block of North Kenwood Avenue.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective James Hurt at the IMPD Homicide Office by calling 317-327-3475 or sending an email to James.Hurt@indy.gov.
People can also call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana anonymously at 317-262-8477.
