INDIANAPOLIS — A woman who died in a shooting early Friday was the fourth person to be fatally shot at a northeast side housing complex since June 19.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded just after midnight to the 4100 block of North Brentwood Drive, near East 42nd Street and North Post Road, IMPD Officer William A. Young said in a news release. When police arrived, they found the woman who had been shot along with a gathering of at least 30 people.

The woman, who has not been identified, was transported to Eskenazi Hospital where she later died.

According to a tweet from IMPD's official Twitter account, a private security guard hired by the housing complex was detained for their involvement in the shooting.

IMPD said in a news release sent at 10:25 a.m. the security guard "is not associated with any local, state or federal law enforcement agency." The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will determine if charges should be filed once the investigation is complete.

IMPD has not released information on what led to the shooting.

Three other fatal shootings have occurred in the same housing complex since June.

On June 19, Zyair Herron, 27, died in a shooting in the 4000 block of Hampshire Drive. A week later on June 26, Ronald Morris, 46, died and another person was injured in a shooting in the 4100 block of North Brentwood Drive. Shawn E. Hicks Jr., 23, was also fatally shot in the 4100 block of North Brentwood Drive on July 30.

Anyone with information about Friday's shooting should contact the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
