Woman struck and killed in hit-and-run in Broad Ripple

INDIANAPOLIS — A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning in Broad Ripple.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers and emergency personnel were called around 3 a.m. to the 800 block of Broad Ripple Avenue on the report of a pedestrian struck, according to a press release from IMPD. When they arrived, they located a woman who was dead.

After speaking with witnesses of the crash, officers learned the woman stepped into oncoming traffic and was struck by vehicle, according to the press release. Officers also determined the vehicle left the scene.

A short time later, officers were able to locate the vehicle, according to the press release.

Officers arrested a 28-year-old and preliminary charged them with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and leaving the scene of an accident, according to the press release.

The identity of the victim has not been release.
