MUNCIE — It's not just violence, but the drug epidemic that continues to take lives in Indiana and across the country.

The road to recovery is not just for those with alcohol or drug addictions, a new program in Muncie is open to anyone and everyone to join.

Recovery Cafe Muncie is a hands-on program helping those on the road to recovery by creating a safe and trusting environment.

Their goal is to create a support system to help guide members through a successful recovery. The program is national and has locations all across the state.

Members meet three times a week, spending time sharing in what's called, "Recovery Circle." They can enjoy a meal, play board games, and attend classes such as jewelry making.

"Because I know for me, anybody in my life the last 20 years I completely cut out because they had some part to do with my addiction," said Heather Hartman, a Recovery Cafe member. "I'm not going to send them pictures of my daughter cheering like I would people at the cafe because they've become such a good support system."

Recovery Cafe Muncie began in July and quickly grew from there.

The director told WRTV that within the first week, the program went from one member to 25, and the need continues three months later.

To attend, any guest must be drug and alcohol-free for 24 hours before entering the space.
