INDIANAPOLIS— Water in the downtown Indianapolis canal turned blue Friday.

It was dyed that color to honor organ, tissue and eye donors — all part of National Donate Life Month.

According to the Indiana Donor Network, more than 1,300 Hoosiers are waiting for an organ transplant.

Nationwide, the number is 114,000, with another person added every 10 minutes.

Donate Life month features 30 days of local, regional and national activities to encourage Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors, and to the celebrate those who have saved lives through their donations.
