INDIANAPOLIS — Friends and family gathered Friday night to honor a man who gave his life to save another.
Loved ones held a vigil outside the Dollar General in Cumberland where Greg Raley was shot and killed in December. Family members said Raley was sitting in his car outside the store when he noticed a robbery inside where his girlfriend was shopping.
They said he ran in to protect her and was shot to death by one of the robbers. Raley's brother said this type of violence happens too often.
"Greg was a light in a lot of our worlds," Richard Raley said. "He's still with us. We feel his presence here and there, but we're missing him every day. The violence in the streets here in Marion County, it just ain't getting no better, you know, so we're not the only family doing this. That's what's hurtful. When's it gonna end?"
Two people are charged in the shooting. The suspect accused of pulling the trigger was 14-years-old at the time.
