FISHERS — The Fishers Fire Department is reminding people of the dangers of sledding near water after a close call Saturday morning.
A 4-year-old sat down on a sled near a retention pond and slid onto the frozen pond before her parents could react, according to a Facebook post from the fire department. The ice did not break and the girl stayed on the sled.
The parents called 911 instead of going on the ice to get her, according to the post. Firefighters were able to safely get her off the ice using their equipment.
With the temperatures expected to rise in the upcoming days, it's important to make sure kids are staying away from ponds and other bodies of water, according to the post.
