Freezing rain, ice causing power outages north of Indianapolis

Widespread areas of freezing rain and ice north of the Indianapolis area are causing a growing number of power outages across portions of central Indiana.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory through 9 a.m. Tuesday for counties north of Indianapolis, including Boone, Hamilton, and Madison. Additional ice accumulations of up to two-tenths of an inch are possible through the morning.

The icy conditions have led to a number of reports of power outages north of the Indy metro area.

Here are the outage numbers being reported as of 11 p.m. Monday:

  • Carroll White REMC — 2,421
  • Duke Energy — 10,589
  • Heartland REMC — 410
  • Henry County REMC — 87
  • Indiana Michigan Power — 2,014
  • Miami-Cass REMC — 99
  • Tipmont REMC — 1,404
  • Warren County REMC — 7
