MARION, Ind. -- A 2-year-old boy was hospitalized Monday morning after his 3-year-old brother accidentally shot him, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies and Indiana State Police responded to the 4200 block of Creston Drive (Avondale Addition) at about 11 a.m. for a report of an accidental discharge of a firearm. They found that the 3-year-old shot the 2-year-old in the rear right shoulder, deputies said in a news release.

The bullet exited the child and became lodged in a wall, deputies said.

The boy was driven to Riley Children's Hospital for treatment. The boy was released from the hospital Tuesday. He is recovering at home.

The Grant County Sheriff's Department has not been called to the house in the past.

The parents are cooperating with the investigation.

The Department of Child Services was notified, deputies said. The incident is still under investigation.
