GREENWOOD, Ind. -- A Greenwood police officer has been cleared in the deadly shooting of a suspect.
Police responded to a house in the 800 block of Heatherwood Drive around 10:30 Saturday morning.
A woman called 911 saying her boyfriend stabbed her.
When officers arrived, they saw a man and a woman in the garage, and the man was holding a knife to the woman's throat.
Police say the man did not comply with their commands, and they were afraid he would kill the woman, so an officer shot him.
Johnson County Prosecutor Brad Cooper said Tuesday that the officer has been cleared in the shooting.
The officer was on administrative leave, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings. He is a decorated veteran of the force with over 20 years of service.
At last check, the woman was stable at Eskenazi Health with stab wounds.
