GREENWOOD — A Chicago company that hoped to build a large business park in southeast Greenwood will not pursue the plan.
Mayor Mark Myers said the decision by Logistics Property Company came after his discussions with the developer.
A large crowd, made up mostly of development opponents, turned out for a recent Greenwood Plan Commission meeting.
The developer explained that five large inventory logistics buildings would be put up on what is now nearly 200 acres of farmland near the I 65 Worthsville Road interchange.
But Logistics Property said it had not secured tenants for the buildings and Mayor Myers said he was concerned about the size of the business park.
Residents also pointed out that Greenwood's comprehensive development plan does not embrace the sort of development Logistics Property was hoping to build.
With the proposal now off the table, future development of the Kelsay Farms property remains up in the air.
The Worthsville Road interchange on I 65 opened in late-2015.
Since then, property near the interchange has become more attractive to developers, but most of the land east of I 65 remains in the hands of farmers.
