BLOOMINGTON — Leaders in Monroe County broke ground Tuesday on a state-of-the-art facility for eating, playing and, of course, learning.
The new Tri-North Middle School will rise next to the current school on West 15th Street.
The 156,000-square foot building will include an oversized gym, a two-story media center and a cooking demonstration area in the cafeteria for student culinary classes.
Tri-North principal Rae Floyd said the project is all about providing the best opportunities for students.
"Something we have here is visionary leadership and a community that backs education," Floyd said.
The building will also be green with an energy-efficient white roof, geothermal heating and 100-percent LED lighting.
The project is scheduled to wrap up in 2022.
